Upcoming Event

The New Wave in Washington: Navigating the Post-Midterm Landscape for Gulf-U.S. Relations

On November 10, AGSI will host a discussion on U.S.-Gulf relations after the midterm elections.

Date

Nov 10, 2026

Time

10:00am - 11:00am

About the event

The Democratic Party scored a historic victory in the November 3 midterm congressional elections and will control both the Senate and House of Representatives come January 2027. The midterm results are widely seen as a repudiation of many of President Donald J. Trump’s foreign and domestic policies.

How might the new balance of power in Washington affect Gulf Arab countries and their relations with the United States? To what extent will the new Democratic Congress try to compel changes to U.S. policies that most affect the Gulf states: trade and tariffs, energy, defense and security, artificial intelligence and data centers, investment, and the war with Iran?

What are the possible ramifications of the U.S. midterm election results for U.S. relations with Gulf states? What might be expected from – and how might Gulf governments most effectively work with – the incoming Democratic majorities in the Senate and House while preserving existing strong relations with the White House?
