After the Pandemic: The Future of Higher Education in the Gulf

On August 20, AGSIW hosted a virtual panel discussion examining the role of higher education in the development of Gulf Arab states and how the coronavirus pandemic has affected these institutions.

Date

Aug 20, 2020

About the event

Over the past decade, Gulf Arab countries have prioritized the higher education sector to harness the potential of their expanding population and drive an economic transition toward innovation, technology, and a knowledge economy. In the process, Gulf states have also become the largest hosts of international branch campuses globally, increasing accessibility to higher education for young people living in these countries, while attracting some of the brightest students from around the world.

What role have higher education institutions, and foreign branch campuses, played in the economic, cultural, and social development of the Gulf Arab states? How has the coronavirus pandemic affected these institutions’ ability to operate and attract local and international students? With e-learning thrust into the spotlight, how can institutions adopt and improve distance learning methodologies, and how can university administrators leverage the latest available technologies to provide students, faculty, and staff a safe campus environment?
