Sueraya Shaheen

Sueraya Shaheen is a Syrian American photojournalist and cultural advocate whose work centers on photography from the Arab world.
She co-founded Tribe, a nonprofit publication and platform dedicated to photography and the moving image from the region. Since its establishment in 2015, Tribe has worked to amplify the voices of a dynamic generation of regional artists, situating their practices within a wider global art discourse.
As director of SURA Art Advisory, Shaheen engages closely with artists, collectors, and institutional partners, curating exhibitions and building international collaborations. Her work spans cultural programming, consultancy, and art-focused travel initiatives, creating pathways for meaningful exchange between regional creatives and the global arts ecosystem.
Her photographic practice encompasses intimate, documentary-style portraiture as well as commercial assignments for a range of publications.
