Ambassador Alexander Rondos

EU Special Representative for the Horn of Africa

Ambassador Alexander Rondos is the European Union Special Representative for the Horn of Africa and a former ambassador of Greece. He monitors and analyzes matters relating to the Horn of Africa’s security, political life, development, and regional cooperation. Previously, Rondos was an advisor to the foreign minister of Greece, counseling and implementing policy in Southeastern Europe and the Middle East. He has also worked for the World Bank as a specialist on social and nongovernmental organization issues. Rondos was also the chief executive and founding director of the first inter-Orthodox relief and development agency, where he established programs in former Yugoslavia, Russia, Georgia, Lebanon, and the Palestinian territories. He has also worked for Catholic Relief Services, in senior management positions in Ethiopia and the Middle East, and the Center for Development Policy, bringing attention to humanitarian issues in Africa. Rondos holds a BA from Oxford University.

On September 10, AGSIW hosted a virtual panel discussion examining if the countries of the Red Sea basin can turn deepening foreign engagement into opportunities for increased economic and political cooperation.

UAE Security Forum 2019: Reshaping the Future of the Horn of Africa

For the fourth consecutive year, AGSIW convened the UAE Security Forum, where U.S., UAE, and regional partners gathered to find creative solutions to some of the region’s most pressing challenges.
