Assessing the U.S.-Iranian Truce and First Round of Negotiations

On April 13, AGSI will host a discussion on the recently announced U.S.-Iranian two-week cease-fire.

Date

Apr 13, 2026

Time

10:00am - 11:00am

About the event

On April 7, after over a month of fighting, the United States and Iran agreed to a two-week cease-fire, brokered by Pakistan. Both Washington and Tehran hailed the cease-fire as a victory.

The cease-fire was a step back from the brink after days of escalating strikes, mounting threats against Iranian and Gulf Arab infrastructure, and continued disruption to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. However, the truce remains fragile, with many of the key factors that will determine its durability still unclear.

Is the cease-fire holding? And what signals might come from the first round of Pakistan-sponsored negotiations? Where do Gulf Arab countries stand following over 40 days of unprecedented attacks? And what will the future hold for Gulf-Iran relations?
