Emad Bamtraf is the deputy chief of mission at the Embassy of the Republic of Yemen in Washington, DC, a post he has held since September 2024. A career diplomat, he joined Yemen’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2008 and has served in various capacities across the diplomatic and executive branches of government. From 2013-17, Bamtraf was posted in Turkey as a political and cultural officer. He later joined the Office of the Foreign Minister, where he was part of the foreign minister’s close team handling relations with Asia and Africa. From 2019-24, he served as special assistant and then advisor in the Office of the Prime Minister under two consecutive administrations. His portfolio focused primarily on the economic file and coordination with international partners. He played a key role in Yemen’s coronavirus response, including the repatriation of stranded citizens, and participated in several national policy committees.
