About the event
Wartime pressures, targeted strikes, and political succession are reshaping the Islamic Republic of Iran’s decision-making structure. Following the killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and various leadership cadres, the regime in Tehran has faced reported internal fragmentation, disrupted command and control and heightened competition among political and security elites. Although the new supreme leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, has not been publicly seen amid reports of his incapacitation, the regime’s various power centers have seemingly managed to maintain a unified front in the face of external pressures.
Who is leading Iran amid its ongoing conflict with the United States? Does the current leadership consolidation reflect regime resilience or betray underlying instability? How has the role of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and other power centers evolved under wartime conditions? How is Tehran balancing internal cohesion with external outreach?
