AGSI Celebrates Opening of New Office
The board and staff of the Arab Gulf States Institute were honored to welcome H.E. Dr. Anwar Gargash, diplomatic advisor to the president of the United Arab Emirates, for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the official opening of the institute’s new office in Washington, DC.

WASHINGTON, June 16, 2025 – The board and staff of the Arab Gulf States Institute were honored to welcome H.E. Dr. Anwar Gargash, diplomatic advisor to the president of the United Arab Emirates, for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the official opening of the institute’s new office in Washington, DC on May 13.
The event served as a celebration of AGSI’s continued growth and deepening engagement with the Gulf region. The new office is designed to foster both in-person and hybrid engagement, enabling AGSI to host a range of programs, roundtables, and high-level dialogues. It will also serve as a hub for visiting fellows and regional experts.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony featured remarks from Dr. Gargash and AGSI President Ambassador Douglas A. Silliman, followed by a reception and tour of the facility.
Dr. Gargash said, “It is really an honor to be asked to be part of the ribbon ceremony at AGSI. We are celebrating 10 years of success for AGSI and for AGSI making an impact. It is doing a great job, and it is great to be here.”
Amb. Silliman said, “It is an honor and a pleasure to have Dr. Anwar Gargash here to celebrate our 10th anniversary, our new website, and the dedication of our new office suite. We can think of no one better to dedicate this space than Dr. Gargash, who has been with us for much of those 10 years and has been very supportive.”
AGSI Board Chair Ambassador C. David Welch said, “It was an honor to have Dr. Anwar Gargash cut the ribbon at the formal opening of AGSI’s new offices, together with AGSI board and staff. Dr. Gargash’s presence, and his personal work over the years, underscores AGSI’s mission to build bridges of understanding between the Gulf Arab states and the United States, now entering our second decade.”
