About the event

In partnership with the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Washington, DC and the Dirwaza Curatorial Lab

AGSIW and the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Washington, DC co-hosted a panel discussion featuring the curator and artists participating in the exhibition: “While the Coffee Grounds Settle: Stories from Women in the UAE.”

The discussion explored the crucial role of the female voice in the contemporary UAE arts and culture scene. The participants unpacked their own experiences in this space, while highlighting that the UAE arts scene is female dominated.

“While the Coffee Grounds Settle: Stories from Women in the UAE” showcases the works of a diverse group of female artists from across the UAE who span nationalities, generations, and artistic styles. It celebrates and honors women who have contributed immensely to the development and progress of the UAE’s creative landscape, while examining how indoor social spaces, like the living room, can foster community building among women.
